Reply #7: Obama's been in the Senate long enough to know it's already time to get out

He wants to make things happen, and I heard someone (was it Randi Rhodes?) surmise that he got to D.C., went through Senate orientation, and realized that if he stayed there, he'd just become part of the wallpaper (and the system). Look at John Kerry -- great guy, but he's become like a statue, perhaps statesmanlike but stale. Same thing goes for Hillary Clinton ... She was probably on fire when she and Bill first arrived in D.C. but they've both stayed around too long enough to be able to see how things need to change. I think Obama has decided to run at just the right time.
