Obama says he doesnt take money from oil companies. We say that's a little too slick (Factcheck.org)

Factcheck.org calls Obama's claim that he has not received money from oil companies "a little too slick" and "misleading".


Why? Because campaign law makes it illegal to receive money from oil companies as corporations anyway. Neither Obama nor Clinton, not even McCain, have received money from oil companies in the form of corporation donations.

Technically, that's true, since a law that has been on the books for more than a century prohibits corporations from giving money directly to any federal candidate. But that doesn’t distinguish Obama from his rivals in the race.

We find the statement misleading:

* Obama has accepted more than $213,000 from individuals who work for companies in the oil and gas industry and their spouses.

* Two of Obama's bundlers are top executives at oil companies and are listed on his Web site as raising between $50,000 and $100,000 for the presidential hopeful.

So here's the catch. Individuals who are big oil executive, employees or their wives, have donated Obama $213,000, which is less than Clinton has received ($306,000), but Clinton never attempted to be misleading about it.

I give Obama 213,000 pinoccios for this one.
