117. I join you in your concern.
"I'm trying very hard to remain objective, but my heart hurts for her
and for all the young people enthralled with the possibility of politics."

My heart hurts for my own kids as well. They all went for Obama in a big way. I warned them... but the young must dream, so I cut them their slack. And I will be here in the end... to encourage and explain.

"I wonder how this will effect all the young people who threw their hearts
into this new possibility?"

No doubt it will have the same effect it did on many of our generation. And... many of my peers drifted away into apathy after McGovern. Humphrey. But it doesn't have to be that way! We, as parents, can stem the bleed by being honest. By telling them how we keep up the good fight. Year after year. The importance of the downticket offices. Congressional power. The way the presidency works in this country (or doesn't.) The hope that B.O. will be back on our top ticket when he is seasoned a bit more.

All of these things need to be said if and when the real disappointment comes. Be it next month, or in November.
