my Rep. before that (whom I voted for and supported) but I don't think, from a pragmatic political point of view, it makes sense to put another short term Senator on the ticket.
There are many Governors and long term Senators or Representatives that fit the bill as well as Brown. Obama could even dig into the ambassadorial, military or judicial pool and find good "liberal" choices with little to no "political" baggage hanging around their necks.
