The most important characteristic the veep must have, imo, is the strength of character and integrity to not give in to political powers, to carry out Obama's vision of how to lead this nation. In the event that President Obama should become ill or temporarily incapacitated, Obama will need a veep who will carry out the duties as temp Pres the same as Obama would do, regardless of the pressures put upon her/him.

I may be wrong, but I can't help but believe that this is one of the top considerations of Senator Obama when choosing who will be his VP.
