Thats what this is really all about.

The war hawk segment of the right wing (which is probably most of it) relies on political boogeymen that enables them to have more fear cards to play.

As long as a particular person or movement is considered an "enemy of America" in the eyes of American people, the more leverage these people have when pressing for talking points that rally public support for them as candidates. If President Obama, or any other Democrat for that matter, uses successful diplomacy that moves these figures or movements out of the "enemy" column, then thats one less boogeyman they have to use to scare the American public into submission.

Its not that they care that much about keeping us safe. All that is important to them is convincing us that we need them to.
