Dan Gilgoff, a senior editor at US News & World Report, has a new book entitled The Jesus Machine; How James Dobson, Focus on the Family, and Evangelical America Are Winning the Culture War.

Gilgoff was interviewed yesterday on NPR’s Fresh Air. You can hear the interview for yourself here.

The book and the interview are both worth your time. Gilgoff’s point is that Dobson is the most powerful evangelical in America and to a large extent deserves credit for the recent resurgence of the religious right, the election of President Bush, and the success of the “values agenda” in states across the country. Not that this is news, but Gilgoff’s exhaustive research is incredibly valuable.
