That all does sound like the standard scenario. Advertise, then actually make it possible. Creates urgency, you see. Works too. :)
The ATT guys generally don't want to talk about what they're doing just to anyone. I don't know if it was in this or one of these threads where I mentioned that a whole department was made at my former employer that was basically charged with little buy spying on the competition. Walking up to techs and striking up conversations was a common tactic.
Anyway ... I'm following your story closely. I hope it turns out.
