I could find several old chatboard posts by people who said they'd done this and were warning explicitly about which P4s would work and which not. I think I grabbed a second hand 3.2 cpu that meets the specs

I've already added a bit of memory. The case is tight, and some of the wiring might physically press RAM sticks if I added more, so I'm holding off and thinking about that. I'll probably upgrade the harddrive, but there may be compatibility issues there too: there's some double-checking needed

I bought it as a dedicated box for comparing Linux distros: I have a decent collection on hand, most installed in virtualbox now, but I figure I could drop ten favorites onto this thing and check out various aspects like networking

I tell myself I'm really working up my courage for a build by getting in the habit of attending to details and expecting things to go wrong
