My beagle mix had super bad breath, but had had dental issues in the past, and she is 15. The vet gave us one round of antibiotics, which Luna had only taken once before in her life, and the breath issue went away.

The vet suggested a monthly dosage - said it is commonplace in older dogs (15 is pretty old for her size).

I opted out of that treatment, but the bad breath never returned.
