Cheney visits Great Lakes
The Associated Press

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. — Vice President Dick Cheney made a stop in northern Illinois to talk to about 4,000 recruits and sailors at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center.

Cheney compared this generation to his father’s generation during World War II, saying that both answered the country’s call during wartime. And he told the sailors that his father also trained at Great Lakes.

The vice president, however, devoted much of his afternoon speech to the war on terror.

Cheney says he thinks the United States has avoided being attacked again after Sept. 11th because of hard work — not just good luck.

He says America has gone on the offensive in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, and he told the crowd that the interrogation of detainees has provided valuable information.
