19. Bremer is the idiot who followed the "debaathification" of Iraq
He got rid of the Iraqi army and police, against the recommendations of Garner. Bremer is the one to blame for the debacle in Iraq. Had they not released the Baath Party army and police forces, things would be very different in Iraq now. He was told it would take AT LEAST 10 years to build an army and new police force from scratch and he ignored that info. Because of his arrogance (he was in charge now and NO ONE was going to tell him what to do), he created this mess that is Iraq. The Saddam Baathists are the "insurgents" who are fighting our troops. They are the ones who have recrutited fighters. All he had to do was pay them each $20.00 (that's what they asked for) and they would have stayed on to help, but Bremer had other plans. That's what we're seeing now. A QUAGMIRE.
