No other animal in the world lies, cheats, steals, and murders the way humans do.

When we attribute qualities of honesty and integrity to "full humanity," we do our own history a disservice.

George W. Bush is fully human, as were Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Napoleon, and thousands of other murderous imperial tyrants over the centuries. We are a species of artists and scientists and peacemakers just as we are a species of vandals and fanatics and warriors. One does not lose humanity through mass murder -- indeed, we are the only species who could mass murder. The slave owner no more loses his humanity than does the slave, the murderer no more than the murdered, the rapist no more than the raped. All human. All of us.

Understand this, or lose understanding of your own fully human nature.
