But middle school girls aren't really concerned with self-empowerment and feminism. They're mostly concerned with desperately trying to fit in, be cool, and be liked by the boys. That's why they're so vulnerable to messages like this. If all the boys in school are repeating it, it would be very, very, difficult for a girl to actually stand up against that w/o being labeled a nerd. (A middle-schooler's worst nightmare!) Girls are still trying to figure out who they are, or who they want to be. Hearing a slogan like this sends exactly the wrong message.
