Bush had repeatedly promised to run an overall budget surplus at least as large as the Social Security surplus, except in the event of recession, war or national emergency (this might not be true). "Lucky me," he remarked to Mitch Daniels, his budget director. "I hit the trifecta."

Yep, anytime you "hit the trifecta" so you can empty the Treasury and then drive the country into unprecedented debt -- all with the approval of a compliant MSM and a toothless Democratic Party -- you have definitely had a great year.

By the time these revisionists are done, Bush will get credit for inventing the light bulb, splitting the atom, single-handedly winning WWII, being the first man to fly and also to walk on the moon, and for raising Lazurus from the dead. As for mistakes? "If you give me some time, maybe I can think of one."
