40. That's not the point...
Matthews was talking about the fact that people use these catch-phrase/bumper sticker slogans without any consideration of the meaning (nor really caring). The point is that when you feed these slogans to the masses ad nauseum, they get picked up and incorporated into the lexicon--it's a kind of indoctrination by creating ignorance through coded language. The blowhard on the show was just that. I've never heard of the man, but maybe that's the point (or maybe few respectable people will go on Matthews)--any idiot can repeat slogans, but it doesn't mean that they know what they are talking about.

It reminds me of Kevin Costner teaching the dim-witted Tim Robbins cliches in the movie Bull Durham. Or, for those "fuck-pop-culture" snobs, Socrates taking the sophists to task in a Platonic dialogue.
