Wasn't anything remotely human though. A phantom something or other, I guess. It was there, it "charged me", and then evaporated.

I have never seen anything like this before, and never saw it again.

I don't think ghosts are human spirits for that matter. Whatever UFOs (I don't think they are "aliens") are, ghosts are the same thing. Maybe some kind of "thing" that dwells on the fringes of consciousness. Maybe they need a human mind to have any shape at all. If that's different from imagination, I don't know.

But I do know whatever I saw, scared me shitless.
