Would Mitt Romney have an advantage in Michigan?

Massachusettes is so blue, and Mitt's approval ratings are so low that I think Mitt would lose MA against any Dem candidate. But does he have an edge in MI? His dad was MI's governor from 1963–1969. Maybe that is why Mitt announced he was running for Pres in MI.

The good thing is that MI is trending Dem.

Michigan:
'88: Bush (53.57 - 45.67) = + 0.18% Republican (compared to nat'l popular vote)
'92: Clinton (43.77 - 36.38) = + 1.83% Democratic (compared to nat'l popular vote)
'96: Clinton (51.69 - 38.48) = + 4.68% Democratic (compared to nat'l popular vote)
'00: Gore (51.28 - 46.14) = + 4.63% Democratic (compared to nat'l popular vote)
'04: Kerry (51.23 - 47.81) = + 5.88% Democratic (compared to nat'l popular vote)
