Drive a wedge right through it, much in the way that the Goopers used wedge issues to fracture the Democratic coalition in the 1970's and 1980's.

I'm thinking that a pro-Democratic 527 could funnel money into the campaign of a fringe right wing candidate, like the Constitution Party. Or perhaps air ads denouncing McCain for supporting "amnesty"; the goal would be to encourage immigration conservatives to either stay home or support a fringe Rightist candidate in November. Or maybe ads with paid actors pretending to be illegal immigrants saying how much they support John McCain.
