1. He DOES have public support. What he lacks is the support of the Repukes and the Media
2. The situation IS worse than anyone dare say, but we have been told this. We know things are more dire than any dare say. This is called yesterday's news.

Besides, obviously, if people understood that things were worse than we are being told--and we ARE being told--they would be less, not more, likely to beat up on Obama.
