Why do I keep hearing That Tx. buys the most school books?

I know it's a big state, I used to live there. But there are vast parts of Tx. where the only living things are lants & animals and you'd be hard pressed to find a human for several hundred miles! I also doubt Tx. buys NEW books for every class every year! I also heard Calif. typically comes close to the # of books bought, but because their economy is so bad, they aren't buying any until 2014. I find it very hard to believe that Tx. buys more books than NY, Ill, and many other highly populated states.
