MASCARA in all caps because it's an acronym for "Massive Scar Era" - Egypt's only all-female heavy metal/electronic jazz/etc. band. (Formerly all-female, I guess - they added a male drummer in 2009).
I lived in Egypt from 2005-09 and this band was very popular. Their concerts attracted everybody from young head-bangers to entire families. According to the band, their name is a comment on the violence of modern history/society, which is a "massive scar era."  |
