If you do not have numbers of your own, then you do not KNOW that somebody else's estimate is way off. Naturally I cannot find my previous post. Maybe it was deleted. Maybe it was a post I wrote, but never posted. I looked up election results in about 10 states on the issue of gay marriage. Although I just did just as much work, I am not gonna look those numbers up again. 80% does not sound way off from my memory. It fits what I remember in basic terms - "a vast majority". In that sense it is an approximation of reality, like 22/7 for pi, or you could even say 'about 3' or even about 4. It is closer to 4 than it is to 1.

Is 80% written in stone? Does everything posted on DU need to be? At least on the issue of gay marriage the number is closer to 80% than it is to 30%, but I would not consider opposition to gay marriage to be full blown homophobia.
