As part of a broad effort during recess week, MoveOn will hold actions outside the in-state
offices of some of the Republican senators who blocked debate on a non-binding resolution opposing the military escalation in Iraq. (A list will be available on Monday).

After Friday's strong House vote repudiating the president's troop increase, Republicans in the Senate once again used the filibuster to block debate and a vote on Iraq. Several Republicans senators, including John McCain, didn't even bother to show up for the Iraq vote.

"The public opposes escalation yet Republican Senators have stalled for weeks and given President Bush a green light to escalate. The president is out of control. These senators should be reining him in, not helping him," said Tom Matzzie, Washington Director, MoveOn.org Political Action. "Skipping votes on Iraq is outrageous and intolerable," Matzzie added.

In addition to the Senate actions, MoveOn will deliver letters and hold events targeting Republican representatives who voted for escalation in the House Friday and thanking representatives who voted to oppose it.
