in 1983 - Reagan cut taxes - and started taxing unemployment compensation.

as anyone who has received unemployment knows, you receive approximately 2/3's of your previous wages. With the added income tax on it - you receive even less. It makes for tough times.

This week, in our area alone - layoffs from two companies were announced - totaling around 300 people that will be without jobs. Jobs are scarce.

My partner has been laid off since September and has had a couple of interviews, but no offers. I lucked out in finding a new job so quickly, new position opened at the company seeking someone with drafting and graphic design skills - I have both.

if bush really wanted to help out he could repeal the income tax on unemployment compensation or just suspend it for a few years until we dig ourselves out of the mess he's made
