A federal appeals granted a stay of deportation to Germany for accused Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk, but the frail 89-year-old Ukraine native had been removed from his suburban Cleveland home by six immigration officers using a wheelchair.

It was unclear if Demjanjuk would be brought back home.

John Demjanjuk Jr., who was returning to the Cleveland area from Cincinnati, where he had filed motions asking the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the stay of deportation, said he was surprised that his father had been removed from home.
