98. It's actually been on the table years longer but we know
This is from the Armenian National Committee in August 2000, the bill already existed. Pf course we do know about Hastert
Thank Speaker Hastert for pledge to bring Armenian Genocide Resolution to a vote this month

In a major development this week, Dennis Hastert, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, stated that it was his intent to bring the Armenian Genocide Resolution to a vote on the House floor in September.

During an August 26th meeting with Armenian American community leaders arranged by Congressman Jim Rogan (R-CA), the Speaker voiced his support for the legislation, noting that it is his "intent to carry it to the floor."

The Armenian Genocide Resolution, H.Res.398, calls upon the President to ensure that U.S. diplomats dealing with human rights are educated about the Armenian Genocide, and urges the President to properly characterize the Armenian Genocide as genocide in the President's annual April 24th address.

Then SPEAKER HASTERT WITHDRAWS ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RESOLUTION
Citing Clinton Administration Claims that its Consideration Would Threaten American Lives, Speaker Withdraws Measure Only Moments before Adoption by House

Washington, DC -- Citing claims by President Clinton that the consideration of the Armenian Genocide Resolution (H.Res.596) would endanger American lives, Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert today broke his pledge to bring the measure to the House floor, acceding to the President's request that he withdraw the resolution. This action was taken only moments before the resolution was to come to the House floor for a vote, reported the H.Res.596 Committee.

To be honest I am confused why this would be such a big thing to be the subject of blackmail and bribes by Turkey Are they just worried about their historical reputation? Would their be big money Turkey would have to pay out if it was admitted to be a genocide and would our resolution somehow pressure Turkey? It happened in 1915 so the guilty parties are not still around.
