What about dumping tea in the harbor of Boston to protest what was perceived as "taxation without representation?"

It's not that anyone wishes to bring trouble upon themselves, it's that sometimes, government; especially when it becomes dominated by self-serving corporate/oligarch interests brings trouble to the people as a matter of policy.

At times laws can be unjust, immoral and downright evil, the drug forfeiture laws; spawned by the insane Bill of Rights raping so called "War on Drugs" most certainly fit that category.

The OP doesn't just view him self; as a passive victim, but also those terminally ill people, which he had been giving relief to, furthermore the ending of the OP is a challenge to keep up the fight to overturn the current greed based, insanity.
