Just love the AP spin machine at work.

"It sounds like the kind of rugged individualism that would resonate with Americans"

Yes, Americans do have a world standard universal/national health care sys... wait ... just ... a cotton pickin' minute ... Corporations took over the US medical industry.

Here, more than 500 miles from Havana, people tend to speak their minds more freely, even grumble openly about their privations.

500 miles from Havana, people tend to speak their minds? HOLY SHIT! What's foxy going to say about that! According to the DU contingent of Cuba hating Cuba experts nobody speaks their mind or else they are shipped off to El Morro.

Actually in my experience, as well as anyone's experience who've actually has gone to Cuba, that Cubans speak openly about all manner of things. Mostly, they are well informed about world events and are well informed about their own system and history.

I love the AP spin that Castro ordered housing be built.

I think the article points out something that the DUers who've actually been to Cuba say repeatedly - Castro doesn't do it, the Cuban people do.
