Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo spoke in Managua, Nicaragua

Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo said in Nicaragua that only unity, peace and people’s integration would lead to a victory over the world’s current difficult times.


Lazo addressed a rally held Saturday night in Managua to mark the 29th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution.

The Cuban official said he was the bearer of a special solidarity message from the Cuban people, Fidel Castro and Raul Castro to the Nicaraguan people and the country’s authorities.

Quoting Fidel Castro, Lazo stressed that “fighting for a better world means fighting for all the people’s hope.”

Lazo also paid tribute to the Nicaraguans who died in the war against Somoza’s dictatorship.

He said he was proud of sharing the podium with Aleida March, Ernesto Che Guevara’s widow, and the relatives of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters jailed in the United States since 1998.

The Cuban Vice President also greeted Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, whom he referred to as “a symbol of present-day struggle and an inspirer of integrity and solidarity among Latin American and Caribbean people.”

Lazo also highlighted the presence of Cuban medical doctors and education specialists currently working in Nicaragua.

Here, in this historical place, we are telling all Nicaraguans that you can always count on Cuba‘s modest aid, support and solidarity, he stressed.

According to Lazo, our people’s unity led to the Bolivarian Alternative of the Ameritas (ALBA), an integration model promoted by Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and Bolivia.
