4. We have the other reds, here. The Red Sox. Oy.
I don't really care one way or the other about sports, except that my son really does. So, I care once removed, if you will.

Congrats.

I think sports is just a whole other category of its own, not a shiny object to distract us from the country falling apart . Although, I guess there could be shiny objects within sports.

Let say we are back in the day of the Black Sox. And all the sports commentary is focusing on whether one of the players has a different haircut or a different girlfriend.

There are probably thousands of better examples. I just don't know enough about sports to think of a better one.

I think of shiny objects within politics, such as manufacturing outrage over whether or not Michelle should have spent $6000 on a jacket while we should be focusing on things like gridlock and LIBOR.

BTW, some Chick Fil A news is good news. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/chick-fil-a-manager-rogue-sponsors-new-hampshire-gay-pride-fest-article-1.1127401

Not to be jingoistic, but i think all gays should move to New England. Not sure they could all gets jobs here, though. Maybe they should start their own companies?

Wasn't Vermont the first state to enact civil unions? Then we have Mass, the first to recognize gay marriage **beams* like a proud mom). Now, New Hampshire. And that is a purple state, too, sothe franchisee was brave.

But, I just watched In the Life on PBS. Turns out our immigration policies are discriminatory, too. I don't mean just AIDS sufferers, either.

There is lots of bad news. The good news is that there have been so many positive changes since Stonewall and Act Up. Coming out of hiding was HUGE (and i am not being even a tiny bit sarcastic about that, or I would have misspelled huge).

So many lessons for living in civil rights movements. We all hide so many things. We all shame each other about so many things. We suffocate our souls trying to preserve our public images. Silly things we are.
