15. Another reason to be union...
is grievance procedure. Meaning mostly that there are steps to be followed for discipline. Can't be fired without cause and going through the steps. Most states have employment at will. Meaning that they can fire you for any or no reason. There are exceptions but as long as they don't fire for those exceptions they pretty much have it their way.

It is usually beneficial for businesses to have a union for both employer and employee. Costs are reduced for the employer when they have a lower turnover. Employees are less likely to leave if they know that they have someone looking out for them and their employment goals are met. They are more likely to leave if the place itself limits their potential and they consider the job just temporary.
