U.S. jobs outlook fuzzy

SOUTH PORTLAND — U.S. Secretary of Commerce Don Evans told local businesspeople Friday that he was "pretty optimistic" about the economy's direction, but his comments came on the same day a U.S. Labor Department report announced the seventh straight month of payroll job losses. The nation lost 93,000 jobs in August, bringing the total job loss since January to almost 600,000.

Evans, speaking to the Greater Portland Chambers of Commerce, predicted job gains will follow the economic expansion that seems to be developing.

"The numbers look good, but we've got a lot of work to do," said Evans.

1. The spin machine is out in force

...the numbers look terrible and there is an ominous shadow over the American economy.

After hearing Rep. Ron Paul's economic speech yesterday on Cspan, I was discomforted by his description of the stagflation caused by the astronomical expansion of American paper money to finance debts of unprecedented proportions. The ability of the Fed and the government to stave off financial diaster for much of the middle class is slipping away and is probably already gone. Poorer Americans are already living in desparation.

2. Cheap labor Conservative....

The repugs are giving spin to unemployment,
its probably a last ditch effort to try
and make a dismal future for the American
worker kept hidden from those who ignorantly
trust AWOL and his policies.

Good paying factory jobs won't be coming
back and now good paying service industry
jobs (computer & communication) are
leaving in the thousands.

Cheap labor conservatives make sooo much
more paying people a fraction of what
they's have to pay Americans.

There is going to be a backlash from
American workers.....I think sooner
than most would have predicted.

I think at least part of the South which
has been republican for a long time will
vote democratic next time because of the
job losses there. I live in N.Carolina and
people are suffering from factory closings.

3. "Fuzzy?" Put on yer glasses, boys...

These people don't know what they're doing. How can you expect a bunch of legacy kids, failed businessmen and trickle-down wonks to run a national economy when none of them have ever actually balanced a home budget? That's right, we need our economy run by guys who have their security staff carry their wallets for them.
