WP: Bush* to Double Iraq Spending
President Bush, addressing the nation last night about the mounting casualties and instability in Iraq, said he will ask Congress to double the amount already being spent on the conflict and urged the United Nations to play a greater role in the rebuilding effort.

(snip)

A senior administration official said the White House calculated that it was better to take one big hit over the size of its initial miscalculation and the impact on the deficit, instead of fighting the battle again and again in the heat of the presidential race. Of the $80 billion being requested, $75 billion is for Iraq. The rest is for the continuing war in Afghanistan.

(snip)

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell said he estimated that even if a resolution passes, only 10,000 to 15,000 additional troops might be made available from other countries. "We are not expecting this new resolution to cause a large number of additional troops to be added from the international community," he said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

That admission points to serious potential deployment problems for the U.S. military. A study released last week by the Congressional Budget Office found that the Army lacks sufficient active-duty forces to maintain its current level of troops in Iraq beyond next spring.

2. Hope so
Nothing would wake the population up and turn everyone against Bush like a draft. Remember we weren't attacked but instead Bush went against the UN and declared it was time for a regime change even though Saddam had met all the UN sanctions of the latest mandate.

The truth is seeping thru the cracks.

3. Do I smell a massive greenback barbeque?
Please somebody tell me how we are supposed to pacify and rebuild Iraq from the inside of armored personnel carriers? Not to mention that anybody who enlists or re-ups right now is a certifiable idiot.

Anybody?

7. My favorite part of the speech was when he said...
....that there would be no return to America pre-9/11.
I think that would be an excellent platform for a Democrat this year. Sick of living in the post-9/11 culture? Vote for me. You'll no longer live in fear. I sure as hell would vote for him. And I don't understand why anyone else wouldn't. This is so DRAINING.

9. His "humble" act?
What is this face? Poor acting from a pathetic man who does not know where he is going, what he is doing, or what to say without someone else telling him what to say. Mr. Commander of nothing, in command of nothing--doesn't care what he is doing to this country and our children, not to mention the innocents in those countries he invaded after he found out they had no military defenses to thwart his greed--he did not even command that, I bet--he is just the dumb front man . Does he practice this "innocent" face in front of a mirror I wonder. It's so obvious -- so bad. It is the face of a pathetic man acting like he "thinks" a humble leader needs to look.

I cannot stand to look at him much longer. Impeach the bastard.

15. This is a face trying to
avoid smirking. Didn't you see his face start to smirk and then go deadpan/slack jawed? Wonder how long he had to practice to get that look.
