Rice: Saddam was the problem
Washington - President George W Bush did not address the issue of weapons of mass destruction in his speech to the nation at greater length because Saddam Hussein is no longer in power, Bush's national security adviser said Monday.

"It's very simple. Saddam Hussein is no longer in power," national security adviser Condoleezza Rice told NBC television, one day after Bush addressed the nation in a primetime speech about the challenges ahead in Iraq.

False impression

Howard Dean, a leading Democratic contender for president, said on Monday that Rice and Bush "deliberately left a false impression: one, that Saddam Hussein had something to do with the September 2001 attacks on the United States; and two, that there were terrorists actively working out of Iraq."

"There's no evidence for either one of those, other than some peripheral evidence that is circumstantial," Dean said.

1. They've convinced 70% of the public
With media collusion, by repeatedly linking 9-11 and Iraq. did it again in his speech last night. Why, oh why, can't we have a responsible media that questions this administration instead of kissing it's ass?

2. I love Howard Dean's quotes..
However he did not impress me very much in the debates. Sometimes he came across as too tense and had kind of a "deer in the headlights" look about him. Gephardt really dominated the debates if you ask me. Kucinich often times had a "Mr Burns" look about him that kind of creeped me out.

Dean does extremely well in person and fundraisers and other grassroots style events. Like I said before, his quotes are tremendous and very well engineered. He is a little less impressive on television talk shows, and even less impressive on televised debates.

I hope he has the ability to hone his skills because this seems like a large risk to me. If Howard gets the nod simply because of his insane momentum, but he cannot skillfully work his way through the many television appearances that will follow, we may have a problem.

This is not Howard Bashing in any sense of the word, I am a dedicated supporter of the candidate - this is constructive criticism.

5. Sure Condi. Box cutters and al Qaeda cells were the problem
terror cells are diffused throughout the globe yet you really believe you can nail it all down to one central point and person? Get off the sauce babe- you are f-d up!

6. Condi was lying so badly she could barely speak
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 10:17 AM by underpants
I saw this o the Today Show this morning (Katie went after her) and Condi's voice was so "shaky" that she sounded like she was about to cry. I'm not exactly objective in this but she looked nervous as hell and not very solid at all.

Fox had their round table (Fred Barnes and all) on before the speech last night and they were spinning hard. You could tell they had seen the speech and knew they had to tell their viewers what to think about the speech. Lots of "um"s and "wellwellwell..."s. They were scared sh*tless.

Larry King came on CNN afterwards and the ten person panel (reporters, Graham, Judith Miller) took W's speech apart line by line. The reporter in Baghdad and Amanpour stated flatly that the picture he tried to draw was WAY off the mark.

8. yes, I saw that
Last night with Larry King, it was great! Basically everyone took a shot at explaining why Bush's speech was pure bullshit.

Dean is rockin' on getting out the message that Iraq wasn't involved in 9/11. Loved the use of "creating a false impression" ala Gore.

Keep swingin' all--the truth is getting out!

15. Yep- Condi flat out lied-
Actually named a member of al qaeda who she said was operating out of Baghdad. This would be the one, I think who was getting some kind of operation there and had NO known connection with Saddam or anyone in his regime. She also named those operating in the north- OUT of Saddam controlled areas, although she "forgot" to mention *that*.

Big Fat Liar.

20. This is more end game stuff
Okay what have we actually done?

Well we sort of have freed the Iraqi people.

Yeah but many won't see them as free with it being the sh*tbox that we have created.

Well we got rid of Saddam.

Okay go with that.

What if they ask about not finding him yet?

Just ACT like you know what you are talking about and say you are sure we are going to find him....only this time don't say "within weeks" like we had all of our people saying a couple of months ago.

Got it.

unfortunately my 6 year old and 2 year old were acting up so I couldn't hear all of it but when she started with the "He did this and that" litany I could hear her throat tightening up. Guess the Prozac was wearing off.

16. Also, would someone please point out
to the poor addled thing that NO Weapons of Mass Destruction (god, I'm getting so tired of that cliche. Can we have a contest to pick an alternate name?) have been found. No evidence of ongoing programs have been found. That when he used them, we probably supplied the chemicals he used to make them. In her case, PhD stands for Ph**king Dumbass.

26. Nobody could be as stupid as Rice
would have to be to think that her drivel is selling to the public. I have to think she's just given up on any sort of professionalism, and is just putting on a stage show. I expect her to start giggling into the camera like a stand-up comedian who's stage persona has slipped so much he's laughing at his own jokes.

28. And Katie sat there mute
after that lame, ridiculous, deceptive answer.
Let's assume Iraq was just full of WMD's like Bushco told us. Where are they? They're suddenly not a problem because Saddam is gone? What, does he have them with him? Isn't it possible that these tens of thousands of gallons of lethal bio and chem weapons could have fallen into the hands of terrorists? Didn't Condi keep telling us of the threat of Saddam giving these weapons to terrorists as a reason to invade Iraq? Did I dream this? Shouldn't Condi be a bit more concerned about where all these WMD's are and who has access to them?
We're supposed to accept that all is hunky dory because Saddam is MIA? Jeez Katie, I think you missed a follow-up question there...

A cynical person might think that the administration never actually thought Saddam HAD all these WMD's!

29. About that....
"Con Artist" Rice is a sleeze and a half! First it was the weapons, then it was "ooohhhhh, he's a tirant, he killed his own people", now Saddam himself is the problem! When will this ever end???(Why didn't they object to Tirant Saddam when he was our "friend"?)

31. Lying, part 2.
If you had to get up in the morning and you knew you would spend a big part of the day lying, wouldn't you get a little flustered?

My earlier post delved into the harried existence of someone, particularly a public official who lies on a constant basis.

Lies, lies, lies.

A telltale sign that someone is lying is that their eyes move around a lot. The liar's voice goes down a few pitches. They become more passive. What they're really doing is thinking,..."shit, what did I say the last time around?" Did I mention the part about Saddam and his.... What about the CIA? Did they see it first, or did it go straight into the bowels of this organization? ....crap....

What they're doing is thinking, trying to cover their tracks & not make new bloopers. Because they know the tape recorder is on. One screw-up and you're sunk because they're all watching. And waiting.

A very stressful way to live.

Can you imagine after a hard day of lying, you go into a pizza parlor and order a pizza. Will that be a pepperoni pizza? No, I said mushroom. A glass of beer with the pizza? No, I mean, yes well let me check my notes.....

WHAT A WAY TO LIVE
