DENVER - State Supreme Court Justices will hear oral arguments Monday on mapping Colorado's Congressional districts.

State lawmakers could not agree on a map, so a judge drew the district lines in 2002. Traditionally redistricting follows the national census report, so the map can be adjusted for population shifts.

In May, Republican lawmakers pushed a new map through the legislature in the last three days of the session. Democrats objected and filed a lawsuit to block the map, saying the redistricting was unconstitutional.

State Attorney General Ken Salazar also challenged the new map in court.

"It really comes down to the question of whether people think that a single unelected judge ought to determine how we elect our members of congress, or 100 elected representatives of the people." said Senate President John Andrews, a republican. (snip/...)

13. He'll lose his seat..
....whenever he is up for re-election. And don't count on a Governor Andrews too. He'll be as worthless as a pile of dung.

3. They Have the Numbers Here in Colorado, Unfortunately
Colorado is roughly one-third Democrat, one-third Republican, and one-third independent. And manu of the independents are right-leaning. There are a few Democrat strongholds like Denver, Boulder, and Pueblo that are each an oasis in a desert of Republicanism...

14. The demographics has changed for 2004
and Dems are in a strong position to recapture what was a formerly blue state.

17. I Hope So
Pueblo is still a Dem stronghold, and once again I will be actively working for the party candidates. But places like Colorado Springs (where I work) are terminally infested with rabid Republicans.

6. The 7th District in Colorado
Was one of the most closely contested senate races in the country.....the repubs won by 200 votes or so......therefore, we msut redistrict so they have a clear majority for the next go around.

Of particular--and insulting--interest to me is the fact that the repub redistricting plan regarding District 7 doesn't include the neighborhood the Democratic contender, Jim Feeley, lives in. What sore winners this nasty group is!

8. Guaranteed to go Dem in 2004.
Many people are not happy with Tracy Baker who happens to live in the 7th, and he's a Repuke. So based on the unhappiness of the controversy, it'll go Democratic. Say hello to Congressman Mike Feeney in 2004, and bye bye to ex-Congressman Bob Beauprez.

7. I'll give you the outcome
Only two of the COSC are Repukes.

You can guess where it will go.

The redistricting plan is going to meet Mr. Toilet.

11. Before owens
We've had decades of Democratic governors, and the last two Supreme Court justices are nominated by Owens, which, by the way, is separated from his wife as of last week. So much for Republican family values.

There's no CO issue that has upset me more than the redistricting.
I think that with the higher turnout in a presidential election, 7th district would be a Dem. shoo-in. And Mike Feeney has always been one of my favorite CO politicians.
