Senior Democrat Calls For Resignations At Pentagon
Senior Democrat Calls For Resignations At Pentagon

New York Times Tuesday 9th September, 2003

A senior House Democrat has called for the resignation of the top two officials at the Defense Department, saying that miscalculations by Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and the deputy secretary, Paul D. Wolfowitz, had cost American lives in Iraq, and damaged the nation's fiscal health.

In a letter to President Bush, Representative David R. Obey, the ranking minority member of the House Appropriations Committee, said the Pentagon should be relieved of its role in determining foreign policy in Iraq, in part because of errors made by Mr. Rumsfeld and Mr. Wolfowitz, before and after the war.

"It is impossible to review the record of the past year and not conclude that they have made repeated and serious miscalculations," said Mr. Obey, who has represented northern Wisconsin for 34 years.

The unilateral conduct of the war and the planning for postwar occupation cannot be seen as "anything other than a disaster," he wrote.

1. Beautiful,
although the resignation should come from up higher, of course.

3. Oh I love Byrds Comments
"Friday, Senator Robert C. Byrd, Democrat of West Virginia, questioned how Republicans could be willing to spend tens of billions of dollars on Iraq, while refusing to spend $6 billion to bring the administration's education program, known as No Child Left Behind, up to its authorized spending level."

I love that West Virginan :bounce:

5. Totalitarians, Imperial and other assorted Busheviks DO NOT RESIGN
Carried away in chains perhaps, but resign?

The steps of the Imperial Senate would be slick with blood before any Bushevik resigned (involuntarily).

7. I hope they stay
And bring down Bush* with them and utterly and totally discredit PNAC in the process. If things get worse, maybe we can make a clean sweep of all the neo-cons in Congress, too.

8. I love Senator Byrd and Senator Obey
The senator from West Virginia is the greatest statesman in the Senate. He has almost single-handedly taken on this bunch of lying, non-elected idiots. I resent that my tax dollars are going to clean up a mess that shouldn't have been. Since we invaded, we obviously have to rebuild Iraq, but we need to turn the whole thing over to the Iraqis and pay for the mess Bush made. In fact Haliburton and Carlyle and Bush's blind trust and all those cheaters in Florida and Georgia should ante up the most. Go Obey. Obey your conscience.

He is not in the Senate.

But what difference does it make, right?
