Iraqi City in Lockdown After U.S. Base Blasted
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20041222/ts_nm/iraq_dc&cid=564&ncid=1480

MOSUL, Iraq (Reuters) - U.S. forces sealed off entire districts of the Iraqi city of Mosul on Wednesday and raided homes in a hunt for suspects following a guerrilla attack that killed 18 Americans and four Iraqis.

Mosul's governor issued an order banning use of the five bridges that span the River Tigris in the city, and said anyone breaking the order would be shot. Residents said Iraq (news - web sites)'s third city was a virtual ghost town, with no one in the streets.

<snip>
Military investigators are still probing whether Tuesday's attack on a dining tent at the Marez U.S. base in Mosul was a mortar strike or possibly even a suicide bomber. It was the deadliest attack on Americans since they invaded last year.

In Mosul, people were afraid: "Students went to school but were told to go home. People went to the shops, saw American troops in the streets, and went home," said Ahmad, 25, a car dealer who declined to give his surname.

6. Stupid Americans who feel bad that they can't win... pitiful shame
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 08:22 AM by KingChicken
They continue to screw up in Iraq then get mad because they were attacked.

The marines, commanders, and officials have had a systematic pattern of denial about the situation in Iraq and specifically Mosul. When you choose to turn a deaf ear to a REAL problem then you get FUCKED, that’s life, weather you pray once or ten times a day!

We've been saying that for months, Mosul and other parts of Iraq are NOT under full control, we have repeatedly failed to secure these cities. As long as the commanders continue to preach how well the war is going and the grunts believe it then we will continue to waste both American and Iraqi lives for nothing.

We are fucked in Iraq, we’ve been fucked in Iraq, and we will continue to be fucked in Iraq, because faith, a wing and a prayer, DO NOT fill in for common sense, logic, and rationality. Figure it out yet, or do we need another 2000 years?

8. Unfortunately there are people in power
who want this.

To the neocons and the fundies, Iraq has been a huge success. They no longer have to wait for Armageddon, this is Armageddon.

7. Man on the street:

There was little apparent sympathy for the dead Americans on Mosul streets Wednesday.

"In fact, what has happened in Mosul yesterday is something expected," said Sattar Jabbar. "When occupiers come to any country (they) find resistance. And this is within Iraqi resistance."

"I prefer that American troops leave the country and go out of cities so that Iraq will be safer and we run its affairs," Jamal Mahmoud, a trade union official. "I wish that 2,000 U.S. soldiers were killed not 20."

Looks like we will have to declare Mosul a den of terrorists too and level that city.

10. The attackers are ON THE US PAYROLL
They're finding ball bearings and odd bits of shrapnel at the site of the tent explosion. That was no mortar, that was a bomb, and it was brought in by workers who are on the payroll--your tax dollars at work!!!!--at that forward operating base. The bomber or bombers are probably potato peelers, janitors, and what not. Either they brought the thing in as a suicide vest, or brought it in, bit by bit, hidden in bushels of potatoes, broom handles, shoes, whatever, and put it together in the break room, stuffed it under a steam table or other central, convenient location, and just waited for the right moment to detonate.

Obviously, the search procedures at the gate leave something to be desired....but hey, if Granma has to take off her shoes and get her boobies and wazoo felt up to go to her vacation trailer in Florida, we're safe!! We should just suspend criticism, kneel and obey, and never question our fearless leaders....drink that kool aid and be happy!

11. Bush will want revenge
Especially since some Halliburton people were killed. I expect something rather horrible will be done to Mosul in revenge. But, Bush will wait until the New Year, so as to not seem too keen on death during the birthday of the Prince of Peace.

Two weeks ago someone was allowed into Fallujah by the military to help bury bodies. They were allowed to take photographs of 75 bodies, in order to show pictures to relatives so that they might be identified before they were buried.

These pictures are from a book of photos. They are being circulated publicly around small villages near Fallujah where many refugees are staying.

The man who took them was only allowed to take photos and bury bodies in one small area of Fallujah. He was not allowed to visit anywhere else. Keep in mind there are at least 1,925 other bodies that were not allowed to be seen.

Information with some of the photos is from those identified by family members already.

One of the family members who was looking for dead relatives, shared these photos which were taken from that book.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, he told of what he saw in his village during the last few weeks.

“The Americans shot every boat on the river because people were trying to escape Fallujah by the river. They shot all the sheep, any animal people owned was shot. Helicopters shot all the animals and anything that moved in all the villages surrounding Fallujah during the fighting.”

He said that none of the roads into Fallujah, or around Fallujah were passable because anyone on them was shot. “I know one family that were all killed. There are no signs on these roads that tell people not to use them-so people don’t know they aren’t supposed to use them. No signs in English or Arabic!”

Here are the photos...http://dahrjamailiraq.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album28&page=1

19. I hope they make signs of this on the day of his 50 million dollar parade!
I think all of his "have mores" at the inaugural should be forced to go bury these bodies and then spend two weeks at Abu Ghraib..
