Hart 'defers' to Udall
Congressman urged to take on Campbell for U.S. Senate seat

Former Colorado Sen. Gary Hart says he is "deferring" to Congressman Mark Udall on a 2004 U.S. Senate race to unseat U.S. Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell.

"I've deferred to Congressman Udall, and I certainly hope he will be the Democratic candidate," Hart told CNN on Tuesday.

Udall, for his part, has not decided yet whether to challenge Campbell, a spokesman said.

Political consultant Eric Sondermann of Denver said Campbell rivals will find a tough competitor.

1. I agree
if Udall doesn't do it though then I think Hart should. Either would be a strong candidate.

2. Udall will have a hard time beating Campbell
he'll get smeared as a "Boulder liberal". Gary Hart is more electable, IMO.

I thought the DLC was grooming Ken Salazar for the job.
