Liberal Talk Radio Coming to SA (San Antonio, TX Clear Channel)
http://woai.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=50375E71-AE3A-484C-9B92-6BA6023EA88D

The city's first ever FM talk radio station will also be the first to be programmed with progressive talk, officials of Clear Channel Communications announced today.

KRPT will sign on the air Thursday morning at 8AM on 92.5FM. The station is currently called KHTY and formats urban and hip hop music.

"This is going to be exciting," Clear Channel Vice President and Market Manager Tom Glade said. "Progressive Talk is one of the fastest growing formats in the country and we are thrilled to bring this innovative new programming to San Antonio."

<snip>

"You have to remember that 44 percent of Bexar County voted for John Kerry last November," Lundy said. "These are people who are crying out for talk radio. This indicated to us that the San Antonio area is long overdue for a progressive talk station."

For once I'm envious of something in Texas.

Except for Lynn Cullen and a couple of sporadic night and weekend hosts - it's all Wingnuts all the time.

Some program manager here will probably figure this out in 5 years or so.

6. No not really
they are being very methodical in their aproach if yuo look at the expansion map

They are going literally from big to small market, and then penetrating the most critical markets first... like Texas and San Diego Ca

12. SC - Agree, we need it REALLY BAD. Someone from Tampa
called Mike Malloy the other night and at one point during their discussion, he basically said what you did. This is the good news - Mike Malloy told the caller, it's coming....it's coming....(you could tell he couldn't say anything more, but from what I heard, Tampa will be one of the next places for AAR).

Hey SC, when your condo "neighbors" purposely let the air out of one of your tires bec you have a Kerry/Edwards bumpersticker on your car, it's bad!

So where are you located? I live in T&C near the airport.

13. I live out by Dade City.
There's no condo's but I'm surrounded by mobile homes. I don't put bumperstickers on my car. It helps prevent it from becoming a target.

9. There is nothing to figure out
US Stenographers are scared shitless of the Administration, and we need a lone heroic voice asking... Have yuo no shame?

I no longer trust any of the Stenographers and do NOT watch them. I feel much better you know... and that is the second thing they understand. Our most effective move is to turn the teevee off and let their advertisers know why.

What happens when you are trying to sell a widget and nobody is watching?

11. Once they figure out there is money
Clear Chamnel follows the money... they will program a station to the left of the dial. What do you think our local station is? You guessed it, Clear Channel... one of the three stations, the other two are... you guessed it RIGHT WING.. and now they are running CNN at the top of the hour, when at home I am listen to the web feed, and I am looking at getting a sirius satellite soon, as in this year, as soon as other thigns that are more important are bought

16. True, on the whole, but Randi Rhodes worked for CC when
she aired in WPB, Florida. In fact, I think she is still connected w/ CC, bec she said that they "let" her work for AAR and CC.

Why? Because she makes them money.

Man, DU's revolving door of flexible issues spins faster than a jet turbine. Year after year of whining about Clear Channel is just up in smoke as soon as they book an acceptable radio host.

17. FM!? Damn!
In Atlanta we have an AM AAR station powered by a geriatric gerbil on a treadmill. FM would be sweet.

Congrats to our friends in Texas!

21. You can pick up Cincinnati, OH - WCKY 1530 AM in GA
but only at night.

I'm in Athens. I barely get AA on my car radio and then only at certain times of day. (I suppose the gerbil is really tired a lot of the time!)

In any case, I was scanning the AM dial one evening when Malloy's voice came out of my radio. Boy, was I surprised. I can even get reception in my house! The station comes in much more clearly than 1690AM from Atlanta. There is some static.

28. It's NOT Air America.
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 03:40 PM by Opposite Reaction
Not that it HAS to be Air America, but just in case someone thought it might be. Having Schultz in SA will be a very good thing.

"The first show aired on KRPT will be hosted by Jerry Springer, the former Cincinnati mayor who is best known for his wild TV show featuring the antics of transvestites, hookers, and lost loves."

"Veteran local talker Ron Aaron has been signed to host a three hour show on Saturdays and Sundays, with a time to be determined, Lundy said."

"Other personalities to appeal on KRPT will include Phil Hendrie and Lionel, both of whom have enjoyed success on WOAI, and Ed Schultz, a talk host Lundy describes as 'energetic and opinionated.'"

"Prominent activist Jesse Jackson's Sunday show "Keep Hope Alive With the Rev. Jesse Jackson" will also air on KRPT."

29. Color me skeptical - I'm from SA
Clear Channel is a huge right wing presence in SA, and they make no bones about that.

I am seriously suspicious of their motives in this regard.

Caveat emptor - it is the ides of March, after all!
