(ON CSPAN NOW) Congress may try to intercede in Schiavo case
WASHINGTON - Republicans may try to pass legislation this week moving the final decision over Terri Schiavo's life to federal court, a move they hope will delay the removal of her feeding tube on Friday.

House Judiciary chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., and Dave Weldon, R-Fla., introduced a bill Wednesday that would allow Schiavo's parents to ask a federal judge to hear her case after the state appeals process is completed.

That judge would be limited to deciding whether withholding or withdrawing food, fluids or medical treatment from an incapacitated person violates the Constitution or U.S. law, according the legislation.

The measure is expected to be before the full House for approval by Thursday.

6. What a bunch of fucking clowns! These so-called 'states rights' advocates
are hilarious in the way that they repeatedly seek out protection by the mighty federal "guvment". We've seen it with tort reform, medical malpractice, and of course the * v. Gore travesty.

A federal review as to whether her civil rights have been violated? Aside from the fact that these fucks wouldn't know "civil rights" if it hit them in the nose, how can anyone REALLY claim that her such a petition even be made on her behalf?

TOTAL CROCK!

10. Did anyone else see Nancy Johnson (R-CT) stand up to the leadership?
It was amazing! She said what was happening wasn't democracy, that it should be handled by the state, and that she opposed the bill.

Thank you Nancy!

15. Yes, several courts have upheld Judge Greer's decision
They also see the danger in the legislature taking over the Constitutional powers given to the Judicial system. The USSC has refused to hear the case.

14. OMG
This case has nothing to do with the US Congress.

One question? How long are people going to sit and take this abuse of government and power?

19. This is indeed sick
The feds are now ready to mandate to the states to pay the costs of those the feds determine shouldn't die while ignoring the millions of uninsured poor.

Welcome to Bush country. Please God, let these four years pass quickly and keep our country intact.

23. This country has been going to HELL
in a handbasket since Raygun (I was in Europe at the time, couldn't figure how he won the first time let alone the second). Bu$hCo and Corp America have even more tools at their disposal and Americans have been subject to more propaganda and overwork for no gains since then.
CORPORATISM (FASCISM) in America seems to be in the driver's seat.
