Dallas investor resigns as Belgium ambassador
September 30, 2003

WASHINGTON- Dallas investor Jeffrey Marcus resigned as Belgium ambassador, just two months after the U.S. Senate unanimously approved him for the job.

Marcus was confirmed by the Senate Aug. 1. He had not yet moved to Brussels and cited family and personal matters that require him to stay in Dallas.

"I had looked forward to working with the Belgians to turn the page on what has been a difficult time in our relationship," Marcus said.

(snip) Marcus is a part owner of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars sports teams.

1. Maybe he's figured out that Bush won't be in office long enough
for him to make the move to Belgium cost-beneficial.

2. He's getting a divorce.
He should have just postponed going over there, for six months or so.

NEW YORK -- The U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia, a Texas oil attorney who has served through a politically sensitive time in the two countries' relations, will leave his high-profile post in a few weeks, American and Saudi officials said Friday.

They disputed reports the Saudis had asked Ambassador Robert W. Jordan to leave.
