Laura Bush Defends Husband on Leaks
http://www.abcnews.go.com/wire/Politics/ap20031001_652.html

"The president doesn't like leaks out of the White House," she told reporters traveling with her on a five-day trip to Paris and Moscow. "He's already called for everyone to come forward for anyone to come forward but for everyone to cooperate in the investigation. But he expects the very highest standards from everyone that works in the White House."

Mrs. Bush said she had not talked to her husband about the situation since she left for her trip. Their last conversation, on Monday when she was still in Paris, was mostly about their dog Barney and other mundane topics.

Without elaborating, she said they had "already talked about" the investigation before she left Sunday for the trip, as news of it had broken in the media over the weekend.

3. There must be a poll
somewhere that says people trust Laura more than Dubya.

They've been making her very, very public recently and they wouldn't do it if they didn't believe that she can pull Dubya's numbers up in some way or another.

4. WTF does she know about it!!
and why is it everytime some dirty sleazy scandal occurs, these guys like Ken Lay and Bush throw their wives out there to speak..
Pickles needs to up her dosage and go back to DC , and stop embarassing the USA any further with her meandering and twittering gabfests . She probably thinks the "leaks" mean something is wrong with the WH plumbing.

7. She probably doesn't believe that a woman could be a covert operative.
Much like she isn't really a First Lady. She is a throwback. Hillary Clinton gave a new and in my opinion better definition to the position of First Lady.

13. 'already talked about' the investigation before she departed
I'm sure she had to be briefed ... I'm conjecturing possible panic attacks of having to go to Europe ... 'what if they ask me something?' 'what should I say?'

... up the Buspar ... tweak the Xanax ...

Not that they didn't know aboutthis ahead of time but it just seems a bit weird that they were having discussions about nothing pertinent except for this.

Let's check the meter

15. This wasn't a leak -
It was vindictiveness in it's highest form, from a decompose administration to bastardize Joe Wilson at any cost.

As an American it is Robert Novak's duty to come forth and expose his source.

And don't ya think that the folks that gave Novak this information was hiding behind the laws, as big business hide the monies in off-shore banking schemes?

which USUALLY goes to the CURRENT first lady. HILLARY was 1st or 2nd and Laura stepford was only like 7%admired. so americans are not all that inthralled by her. so his weapon is carrying blanks.

19. It amazes me how fast the repugs can get their story together.
They're constantly calling it a "leak," instead of "crime," or "treason." As if that was the problem... leakage.

20. It's easier when yo don't have to do analysis or reviews of policy
Policy has already been set all they have to do is test the focus groups to see which message sells best regardless of if it has anything at all to do with policy or legislation.

They have perfected the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) method. And these messengers are very well versed at it.

You can see it in the way she talks about him. Whenever she says anything nice it's totally forced. And of course as all of us at DU would say "I don't blame her"

25. Laura Bush
And now, for a thought from Bizarro-land:

Laura Bush for pres!

I would laugh until my diaphram burst if there was a way to get Laura Bush to run on the 2004 democratic ticket... She's always struck me as far to sensible to believe even half the crap her husband tries to put forward. And what a fun debate to watch that would be, and how humiliating for Georgie!

Oh well, one can dream. She's probably not even as sensible as I want to think she is. *sigh* After all, she IS still married to the guy.

Here is how I interperted:

"He's already called for everyone to come forward (oops, can't say that I know Dumbya loves secrets and would come unhinged if everyone went forward...got to correct myself) No, not everyone to come foreward "but for everyone to cooperate in the investigation." (I'm messinn up because he says that but he really wants them to stonewall or lie....no he doesn't want them to lie. Does he? Well, maybe, but this is a little lie for a NO BIG CRIME....how do I fix it Well not really cooperate like, you know, cooperate But he expects the very highest standards from everyone that works in the White house."
