President Bush plummets to new low in New York, Quinnipiac University Poll
President Bush plummets to new low in New York, Quinnipiac University Poll finds; Gen. Clark is the new top gun, leading Dems and Bush

New York State voters have sent President George W. Bush's approval plummeting to its lowest rating ever, 42 -- 53 percent, as several Democratic contenders now beat the Republican incumbent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

President Bush had a 52 -- 42 percent approval rating in New York State in a June 26 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University. Bush's previous low was a 44 -- 47 percent approval in New York State in June, 2001.

Gen. Wesley Clark tops Bush in New York 48 -- 41 percent in the 2004 face-off. Other Democratic contenders have gained on Bush since the June 26 survey:

Sen. Hillary Clinton beats Bush 51 -- 43 percent, compared to a 47 -- 47 tie June 26;
Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman tops Bush 49 - 42 percent, a reversal of Bush's 49 -- 43 percent lead;
Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry tops Bush 48 -- 43 percent, reversing Bush's 48 -- 43 percent lead;
Missouri Congressman Richard Gephardt gets 46 percent to Bush's 44 percent, a tie and a slip from Bush's 49 -- 43 percent lead;
Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean tops Bush 47 -- 43 percent.

1. Good news
What these polls are steadily showing is that we are returning back to the 50/50, polarized red/blue map from the 2000 election.

3. NY convention
Oh, I hope SO hope someone manages a public shaming of Bush over exploiting the victims of 9/11 during the convention. Of course he would NEVER do that, and there will certainly be no 'empty chairs to represent those who couldn't be among us' or other disguisting statements exploiting the attack. Or statements such as "3 years ago, not far from where we now stand..."

I would love to see a whole crowd of folks jump up and shame him publicly right on national television.

4. That muzzled EPA report
is making NYers very angry. I have many friends who work in that area and they are royally POed.

I myself will be wearing my Where's Osama??? button for the convention period.

I don't really understand what * hoped to accomplish by having the convention here. The absense of the person * said was responsible for 9/11 (within hours of the towers falling) is what people here are going to focus on.

5. New York just made Bush*'s shit list again
More power outages anyone? Or maybe another couple of buildings. When Bush* gets upset someone pays dearly.

7. Does anybody remember

how in July 2002 the Rove-Mehlman PowerPoint presentation disk was "found" and how, it turns out, Karl was telling his California big money donor sorts in it that New York and Connecticut were going to be winnable for them in '04?

Happily, sanity seems to be making a comeback.

12. Bush's ratings have hit new lows in NY in other polls as well
Bush is finished in NY

Bush, Bloomberg
bashed in 9/11 poll

http://nydailynews.com/front/story/114060p-102882c.html

The federal government's handling of the environmental fallout from 9/11 also rankles New Yorkers.

"Fifty-five percent take the Bush White House to task for urging the Environmental Protection Agency in the days after 9/11 to present misleading assurances about air quality near Ground Zero."

In a striking turnabout, 56% of New Yorkers disapprove of the job President Bush is doing in the war on terrorism. A year ago, the numbers were reversed: Washington's war on terror enjoyed a solid 50% approval rating.

And 77% say the EPA's voluntary residential cleanup program downtown is inadequate, and they want the government to conduct a full cleanup of contaminated commercial and residential buildings.

Few votes for Bush

The President has little hope of attracting new voters in New York in 2004, despite the draw of the Republican National Convention next summer.

Sixty-four percent of New Yorkers say they will vote for the Democratic candidate in next year's presidential elections.
