On a Bicycle in Beltsville, Blissfully Unaware

By Dana Milbank
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, May 12, 2005; Page A13

When the state of red alert was declared yesterday, the vice president was evacuated from the White House and the first lady was whisked to a secure location. But no precautions were needed for President Bush.

He was out at the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in Beltsville, riding his bicycle -- at noon on a Wednesday -- blissfully unaware. "The decision was made to inform the president upon conclusion of his bike ride," Bush press secretary Scott McClellan said later.

It was not the first time a crisis has focused uninvited attention on the Bush fitness routine. On a weekday morning in February 2001, when a gun-wielding man was shot outside the White House, it quickly emerged that Vice President Cheney was working in his office, while Bush was exercising in his residence....

***

The small group of reporters who escorted Bush to Beltsville reported that they heard nothing of the plane scare until after it was over.

In follow-up answers e-mailed to reporters late in the day, McClellan said that Bush's Secret Service detail was informed soon after the incident began but that they chose not to disturb the perspiring president. After an hour and 24 minutes on the trails, Bush went back to work.

1. What - they were afraid of another stunned, vacuous moment
at the news that DC might be under attack... that he might go frozen and fall of his bike and hurt himself ... wait, he has done all of that.

And by the way - does he ever spend a full day, when in dc (which isn't that often) actually working?

You know, when I was one time campaigning in Chicago, a reporter said, would you ever have a deficit? And I said, I can't imagine it, but there would be one if we had a war, or a national emergency, or a recession. (Laughter - at his LIE) Never did I dream we'd get the trifecta. (Laughter.)

2. Two BIG problems here
1. The little bushturd has no work ethic. None. Zip. Lazy, narcissistic, spoiled rich child.

2. His Gestapo entourage are so out of touch that they are not aware of what might have been another 9-11 attack. I thought the "president" was never incommunicado.

15. A small group of reporters had "escorted" Bush to Beltsville
That reference gives me a new perspective on the White House media. They have to abandon their self respect and tag along with this superannuated brat on humiliating sand box assignments while Cheney performs whatever "work" there is to be done back home. They're just high paid baby sitters. Once, when my mother was bragging on my childhood accomplishments, an aunt said: "Every crow thinks her own chick is the blackest." These babysitters are paid just to brag about their little crow's puerile exploits.

of the shit that chimp has, he'd have been impeached and removed long ago. It never ceases to amaze how many lies, how much deception, fraud, and outright criminal activity the MSM has covered up, ignored, and excused these last five years. Clinton couldn't escape persecution over a private affair. Chimp couldn't get arrested if he was driving drunk down Pennsylvania Avenue and smashed head-on into a police car.

I called Senator Reids office and told the secretary, "The Democrats are finally standing up so why did Reid apologize for calling a D- loser a loser?" She said the Senator felt it was a bad choice of words.

48. I don't have 90 minutes in my day to exercise, why does Junior??
Edited on Thu May-12-05 03:08 PM by TwoSparkles
Excuse me, but I'd LOVE to spend an hour-and-a-half of my day exercising and devoting time to bettering my physical health. The problem is, my busy schedule as a stay-at-home mom to two preschool-aged girls doesn't allow for such luxuries.

I do make time for exercise, but it's usually a walk with the kids or a quick jog.

How is it that the leader of the free world has so much time for extracurricular and leisure activities? I mean really---didn't the man just return from a European vacation? Shouldn't he be catching up on his paperwork?

Cheney was working when this happened. His wife was at the White House as well. How in the hell does our pResident--who has a war going on--manage to pencil in so much fun time?

Do you ever get the impression that they're purposely keeping him away?

"Yeah, yeah Georgie, we're talking big boy stuff. Here's a box of Milk Duds, why don't you go outside and play. It's a nice day. We'll call you for dinner."
