Afghan rebels attack from Pakistan - U.S. officer

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan guerrillas are still launching attacks from the safety of neighbouring Pakistan despite the Pakistani military's battle against Islamic militants, a U.S. army officer said on Monday. snip

U.S.-led forces overthrew the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001 after they refused to hand over Osama bin Laden, architect of the September 11 attacks on the United States.

Taliban and allied militants have been waging an insurgency against U.S. forces and the U.S.-backed government since then.

A rash of bloody clashes in recent weeks have dispelled speculation the rebels might be running out of recruits and resources but Cheek said the rebels were getting weaker.

1. The rebels might be running out of recruits?
Are the people running our military really this stupid?

It's long been know that Pakistan is one of the main breeding grounds for the rebel extremist muslims.
Until something is done about that, Afghanistan is only as safe as long as we stay there. Once we, if ever, pull out, Afghanistan will go back, almost overnight, to it's old Taliban ways.
The military and the US Gov't can keep lying to itself and to the American people, but until something is done about Pakistan, this will drag on forever.
