Rice points finger at Syria on Iraq violence
Rice reserved her harshest words for Syria, which the United States has long accused of stoking the violence by allowing its border to be an entry point for militants.

"We're going to go back and look again at what the neighbors can do -- particularly the Syrians -- to stop support for these foreign terrorists who we believe are gathering on Syrian soil and coming across," she told reporters as she flew home.

"Their unwillingness to deal with the crossings of their border into Iraq, is frustrating the will of the Iraqi people ... (and) killing innocent Iraqis."

...

"The Syrians have managed to get themselves in a situation of standing in the way of the progress of people in the Middle East and I would think that wouldn't be a very comfortable place for a Syrian regime to be," Rice said.

1. But doesn't she know that Syria wants to be our friend?
"The Syrian government signed an agreement with New Bridge Strategies to improve its image in the American society, convince President Bush that it seeks good relations with his administration and is willing to be extremely flexible in its cooperation with the White House.

The company was selected specifically because its CEO (Joe Allbaugh) had close ties with Bush. Allbaugh was Bush's Chief of Staff and Campaign Manager when Bush was the Governor of Texas. He managed his 2000 campaign and later became Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, in charge of coordinating the public services and provide assistance to the victims of natural disasters."

2. I am shocked! No, really, shocked!
It's not like the bush cabal has ever pointed a finger at Syria for everything anytime they want to divert attention from the mess in Iraq.

3. On an unrelated (sort of) note:
Sorry, but I can't start threads. Some backstory first. Is anyone familiar with the short lived x-files/Millennium spinoff, The Lone Gunman? I recently got the series on DVD, and I was watching the pilot episode, which deduted in 1999 or 2000, not sure which.

Anyway, remember Condi saying that there was no way anyone would have thought of flying a plane in the WTC? Well, guess what the pilot episode was about; that's right, a plane being hijacked with the intention of flying it into the WTC. Only difference being, get this, the government was behind it.

Man, I sure am glad no one ever thought of this before 9-11...:sarcasm:

Sorry, but I lost a good friend when the towers came down, and it still burns me up...

Now that Operation Matador failed to stir the Syrians to attack and provide us a reason to counterattack, Rice is out peddling her bullshit.

She needs to personally experience rendition.

10. Dear Rice; READ THE DUTIES of an OCCUPIER. Guarding Iraq's borders
is YOUR DUTY, YOUR PROBLEM.

It is NOT up to Syria to decide who can go into Iraq; it is the OCCUPIER'S DUTY to determine that.

Stop blaming others for YOUR FAILURES.

12. When is this white house going to learn that these
terrorist groups are not run by countries? They are independent religious groups with individuals who decide for themselves to participate in the action in whatever way they think best. Osama was a Saudi who joined a group and drew other people into that group including a bunch of Saudis who flew planes into the World Trade Center. They in no way took their orders for any country.

As to being sheltered in a specific country - didn't most of them shelter here in the United States for quite a while before they carried out their mission?

That some of them chose to cross into Iraqi because they see this as a religious war is not surprising. Insurgents - in another day they were called "crusaders" who were going to free the holy land from the infidels, only difference is the religions. They are ordinary people who feel a religious call to serve their god. That we may or may not believe they are right does not change their world view.

God, what a mess.

Rice: U.S. to Put More Pressure on Syria
SHANNON, Ireland (AP) -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Monday
appealed to Syria's Arab neighbors to pressure Damascus to close its
borders to foreign militants seeking to join the Iraqi insurgency.

She also voiced optimism about Iraq's emerging multi-ethnic government
but predicted difficult negotiations as a constitutional deadline
nears.

''Somebody will threaten to walk out and there will be a lot of drama
around it because that tends to happen in political processes ... but
they've shown remarkable ability to deliver,'' Rice said of the Iraqis
as she headed home from a brief visit to that country. ''As with any
political process ... in any country, there will be some 11th hour
character to it,'' she added.

Speaking to reporters on her plane, Rice also said the more North
Korea steps up its rhetoric about its nuclear weapons program, the
more united the world community will become in response.

23. Rice: Syria isn't doing its part to stop terror
SHANNON, Ireland -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice sharply criticized Syria on Monday for what she called unwillingness to close its borders to terrorists she said are to blame for some of the violence in Iraq.

"Their unwillingness to deal with the crossings of their border into Iraq is frustrating the will of the Iraqi people" and leading to the deaths of innocent Iraqis, Rice said en route home from a surprise trip to see Iraq's new leaders.

She said the United States will try to enlist Syria's Arab neighbors to pressure Syria to clamp down.

25. Terrorists, or Refugees?
Given the BushCo record on confusing the two, I wouldn't take her word for it. Or anything else.

In fact, the whole concept of terrorists is doubtful. Get our targets, I mean troops, out of there and let's see what changes.
