The only exception is Colorado.

4. Boulder, Colorado. That's almost a blue state unto itself.

2. So what's with the north east?
Don't beat me up, I'm from Pa! I just thought it was weird that the highest %'s were from north eastern states. They sure don't have a long growing season, and not a lot of open spaces to grow stuff that no one would notice, so what's the deal?

3. I don't think so
These guys have obviously never been to Northern California. Its known as the Emerald Triangle and use (and growing) is very high (no pun intended)

5. Hmm... Iowa has the lowest use.
But I believe we top the list in number of meth labs - or somewhere near the top.

Actually, I'm in my 50s and neither my wife or I have ever tried marijuana - probably very unusual for a couple of liberals who grew up in the 60s. It just wasn't used by many here when we were young.

7. Wow
Being from Indiana I am guessing they didn't count Ball State University and Indiana University... Which have been ranked in the past 8 years of Playboy top ten party colleges

8. In study, Boston area tallies highest rate of marijuana use
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2005/06/17/in_study_boston_area_tallies_highest_rate_of_marijuana_use/

(snip)

Douglass Wright. a researcher on the study by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, said the peak ages for drug use nationally coincide with the college years, between 18 and 25. After that, he said, "many people begin to settle down and drop off their use."

(snip)

So much for the idea that smoking pot always leads to harder more dangerous drugs.

10. Bay Stater here
... happy to add to the statistics. ;)

It might have something to do with the fact that we have so many colleges here.

9. I'm curious how this compares to alcohol use.
Also curious how it compares to percentage of youth population compared to the population as a whole in those statistics.

I'm not surprised by the Portland stat. It's a very laid-back town, and friendly. If I were to move to a large city, I would definitely consider Portland.

11. Maybe this is what's wrong with America, not enough pot use.
Doubtful stats. You only admit to it publicly if you're forced to. I think the numbers are much higher.
