U.S. Soldier Killed By Roadside Bomb In Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Military officials said a roadside bomb has killed a U.S. soldier north of Baghdad.

The death adds to another day of carnage in Iraq. Suicide car bombers struck twice today in Baghdad.

Officials said the first blast hit a central Baghdad security checkpoint at daybreak. The Iraqi Defense Ministry says 12 people and the bomber died, and 18 others were injured. The bomb shook the heart of town and sent a plume of black smoke over the area where Saddam Hussein's statue was famously toppled in April 2003.
