Accused Mass. Marine Pleased Innnocent

Associated Press Writer

A decorated Marine accused of firing a shotgun at a crowd of club-goers pleaded innocent Monday to attempted murder and other charges and was ordered to be evaluated at a state psychiatric hospital.

Daniel Cotnoir was named "Marine of the Year" last month for his service as a military mortician in Iraq. A mortician by trade, he prepared the bodies of U.S. soldiers for burial and says the job took a heavy psychological toll.

Police said he pointed a 12-gauge shotgun out the window of his second-floor apartment and fired a shot at a crowd of noisy people leaving nearby nightclubs early Saturday. Two people were treated at hospitals for leg wounds and released.

Cotnoir, 33, a father of two, told police he feared for the safety of his family after someone threw an empty juice bottle through his bedroom window.

1. Empty juice bottle vs 12-gauge shotgun
Well, that might suit the rules of engagement in Iraq, but it shouldn't in Massachusetts...

2. According to the Boston Globe some revelers were taunting him
when they saw him watching them from his window.

He snapped, plain and simple.

He's probably a good man who's been ruined by those he put his faith in.

6. This incident is racially motivated. I grew up in Lawrence MA.
90% of the population is "Spanish" and the 10% of whites that still choose to stay in that war-zone are bitter and extremely racist.
You mat attribute this to PTSD, and it may be but I kow the mindset of Lawrence.

8. What a panzy.
The guy didn't see combat and kissed so much ass that he got an award for it. Then he says that he to shoot at people because a juice bottle was tossed through his window.

10. Lawyer cites stress in Lawrence shooting
Thanks for your clever insight and ESP into Cotnoir's motivation.

I hate this war and what it's doing to people, both here and in Iraq.

- Daniel B. Cotnoir helped take down the charred bodies of four American civilians hanging from a bridge in Fallujah, Iraq, so they could receive a proper funeral. Later, he handed an Iraqi man two bags holding the remains of his wife and 4-year-old daughter who were killed in a car accident with an American fuel truck. Throughout his seven-month tour of service in Iraq, the Marine reservist wiped off the blood of dead American soldiers to prepare them for their final journey home.

11. Oh but you are most welcome.
And I'll be sure to believe each and every word that his lawyer says, especially when it says "...may have..." in relation to the rest of his defense (in other words, his own lawyer isn't so sure about that excuse either).

You make a statement like that in response to my post and have the audacity to assume you understand everything about the man after hearing an excuse like that. Geez!

I would really like to know what kinds of excuses you would happen to have set aside for the soldiers and marines who've actually had to deal with combat before they've ever even seen a dead body. I wouldn't be surprised if you'd be the first to defend anyone who strafes a peace rally with bullets. Hey, we can understand everything about this person and forgive him because after all, he's seen dead people.

:sarcasm:

(Yeah, I included that sarcasm tag because I can tell you just aren't getting it. I don't think that's enough for you though, so here's another example for you.)

Hey everyone, you know that guy who ran over the crosses? We shouldn't be so hard on him because for all we know he probably had a bad childhood and doesn't know any better. Maybe he wasn't breast fed and had a bad time in school and doesn't understand what's really going with the Iraq war. Oh yeah, that's perfectly understandable. And while we're at it, let's forgive George W. Bush for everything he's done wrong in office because we just don't understand what a traumatic life he must have had, especially when he saw all those people executed in Texas. AAAAWWWWWW!!!!

You sure got some nerve defending a shitbag like that.
